Peter Hancock Capitol News Illinois SPRINGFIELD â The top public health official in the United States said Tuesday that the COVID-19 trends in Illinois are improving and he urged the public to get vaccinated as soon as the doses become available to them. âThe numbers here in Illinois are moving in the right direction and we have a finish line in sight with these two vaccines,â U.S. Surgeon General Dr. Jerome Adams said during a news conference in Chicago. Adams was referring to the vaccines that were recently granted Emergency Use Authorization by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, one developed by the drug companies Pfizer and BioNTech, and another by Moderna. The state began distributing the Pfizer vaccine last week and expects to begin shipping the Moderna vaccine this week. ....

The IDPH listed the deceased as a man in his 70s and a woman in her 90s. On Tuesday evening, the Madison County Health Department reported three new COVID-19 related deaths, bringing the countywide total of 344 so far. Details on the deceased were not immediately available. The health department also report 193 new confirmed and probable COVID-19 cases in Madison County, as well as 1,038 new tests. The three-day positivity rate was 12.66%, with a seven-day rate of 14.7% and a 10-day rate of 14.33%. ....
