China accelerates project to set up its own cotton standards: media

China has stepped up plans to launch a domestic cotton project, forming its own national standards on cotton, according to people familiar with the matter, South China Morning Post reported on Thursday.
Zhongnong Guoji, a Beijing-based cotton vertical service provider, started the Weilai Cotton, or future cotton project, two years ago, and has made some progress since January when two organizations – the China Fashion Association and the Modern Seeds Development Fund – became involved, according to SCMP, citing Zhao Yan, one of the coordinators for the project. ....

Xinjiang Under Blue Skies is a song jointly created by six Uygur and Han musicians in the aftermath of the attack. Chen Ruijun, who wrote the song, said people from other regions in China began perceiving Xinjiang and its people in a negative light after the attack. Changing people s perception of Xinjiang through the power of music became the biggest motivation for Chen and his fellow musicians. The term genocide has become a matter of public concern following accusations about China s Xinjiang policy by the United States and some other Western powers. So what does genocide mean according to international public law?
The term genocide was coined in 1944 by Raphael Lemkin, a Polish lawyer of Jewish descent. At the end of 1948, the General Assembly of the United Nations passed Resolution 260 A, Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide .The treaty became effective in January 1951.
Article 2 of the legal document clearly defines acts of genocide, stating that any of the following acts committed with intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnic, racial or religious group, constitutes genocide: killing members of such a group; causing serious bodily or mental harm to members of the group; deliberately inflicting on the group conditions of life calculated to bring about its physical d ....
