captioning sponsored by cbs. in is the cbs evening news with scott pelley. pelley: good evening. we have just learned that ukrainian rebels have turned over to investigators the flight-data recorders of the malaysian flight 17 which was shot down thursday over eastern ukraine. it has been four agonizing days for the families who lost loved ones on flight 17. they pleaded for the return of the remains of their loved ones. today the pro russian rebels who control the area of eastern ukraine where the plane was shot down sent them home in rail cars. 282 of the 298 victims have been recovered so far. the u.n. security council including russia demanded that the rebels now allow investigators safer and unrestricted access to the crash site. we have a team of cbs news correspondents covering this story and we ll begin tonight with mark phillips in ukraine. reporter: they died in a place they never intended to be. and now most of the victims of malaysia air flight 17 finally
abducted her? to my knowledge that s exactly what happened. reporter: a lot of pressure on the u.s. attorney s office to close the case, so they picked kevin. the current defense team led by bernard grimm blasted the dci, fbi and state and others who based much of their case in 82 on a pubic hair sample from martin. the fbi said the best we can do is the pubic hair found at the scene was consistent with martin s which means it s consistent with every african american male in this city. reporter: convinced by his prior defense team that he could be convicted, kevin martin took what s called an alfred plea. he didn t admit to the murder but agreed the government had enough evidence to secure a conviction. federal prosecutors say recent dna has now led to the exoneration of martin in the attack on ms. brown. i just people like man, it was my time, you know. it s about time. reporter: u.s. attorney ron machen issued a statement that says 30 years ago kevin martin was
story of adult twin sons found locked in a basement. i m derek mcginty. and i m lesli foster. parents janice and john land face imprisonment and abuse charges in montgomery county after police found their adult sons with autism locked in the basement of their rockville home. mola lenghi is in that neighborhood tonight and joins us to tell us more about why police went to the home in the first place. reporter: the home you re talking about is this house here behind me where police say they found the two 22-year-old, twins, locked in the basement against their own will in what they describe as deplorable conditions by their very own parents. the house is now condemned. the twins are being evaluated. the parents are out on bond. this began early thursday morning when montgomery county police came to serve a warrant for an unrelated incident. the state s attorney s office in montgomery county says as officers walked through the house, they stumbled upon a door in the basement
