Too early to think of 2022 growth target revisions: NEDA exec

MANILA - It is still early to think of any revisions in the 2022 growth target even with the Alert Level 3 implementation in several parts of the country, a National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) executive said Tuesday. While Alert Level 3 movement restriction has been raised until end-January 2022 in more than 80 areas around the country, including the National Capital Region (NCR), NEDA Undersecretary Rosamarie Edillon said the decision is partly made as a "balancing act" for health and economic aspects. "With respect to the target for the year, it's still early days to be revising whether upwards or downwards because it's just January 18. There are still a lot of developments that can happen, hopefully very positive developments on that," she said during the virtual presser hosted by the Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) for the Task Group on Economic Recovery and National Employment Recovery Strategy (TGER-NERS). Unvaxxed individuals find hope in Sara's support

(Photo courtesy of City Government of Davao Facebook page) DAVAO CITY - Unvaccinated individuals on Tuesday found an ally in Mayor Sara Z. Duterte over a proposal to restrict them from entering the city and denying them certain government services. Earlier, Duterte announced that she was not keen on imposing restrictions for unvaccinated people in Davao City similar to those being implemented in Metro Manila following a surge of the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) cases. "I am pro-vaccination and boosters. [But] in this case, I cannot agree with the exclusion or restriction of the unvaccinated because they were given the freedom to choose. Since they are given freedom, why should they suffer from restrictions," she said in a radio interview Monday. She, however, left the discretion to business owners regarding setting rules on the entry of unvaccinated individuals into their respective establishments. BTr partially awards 5-year T-bond

MANILA - The Bureau of the Treasury (BTr) partially awarded on Tuesday the five-year Treasury bond after investors asked for high yield. The BTr offered the debt paper for PHP35 billion but the auction committee awarded PHP22.126 billion from total tenders of PHP58.277 billion. The average rate of debt securities rose to 4.012 percent from 3.762 percent. In a Viber message to journalists, National Treasurer Rosalia de Leon said the highest submitted bid during the auction was 4.15 percent. This level, she said, "is way above fair value for the security." "Inflation will trend downward and BSP (Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas) (is) patiently supportive to allow (the) economy to revive," she said. The inflation rate last December decelerated for the fourth consecutive month to 3.5 percent from month-ago's 4.2 percent. The average inflation last year stood at 4.5 percent, above the government's 2-4 percent target band. Monetary authorities forecast inflation to set ....
