It gave the promise at the fifth anniversary of its VOICE project, aimed at defending the rights of women in society. The VOICE project, is being implemented with support from the Netherlands and focuses on Nigerian women who are victims of abuse. At the anniversary celebration held on Wednesday in Abuja, Constant Tchona, Oxfam country director in Nigeria, said the organisation believes that the country’s sustainable development depends on “the collective effort we make to recognise the different levels of disabilities in the society”. ....

Punch Newspapers Sections Raphael Ede, Enugu The Enugu State Police Command has appealed to law-abiding residents of Oruku community to remain calm, while it hunts the killers of their town union Vice Chairman, Samuel Ani, who was shot dead at his residence. The command, in a statement by Daniel Ndukwe, regretted the callous and brutal killing of Ani by those it said should have protected him if he was being attacked. The statement read in part, “The command received an incident report that on February 24, 2021 around 7.30am, hoodlums suspected to be among the warring factions in Oruku community shot and murdered one Samuel Ani at his residence in the community. ....
The incident happened on Monday night when Igboho stormed the troubled area in Yewaland. However, the spokesman of the Command, Abimbola Oyeyemi, yesterday told newsmen in Abeokuta that three suspects have been arrested in connection with the crime. Oyeyemi also disclosed that there have been attacks in the past three days on herdsmen settlements in Yewaland. According to him, the settlements affected have been in existence in the area for many years, in some cases for over 20 years, and inhabited mainly by Nigerian herdsmen of Fulani extraction, some of whom he said were born and brought up in the area, and speak the Yoruba language with proverbs fluently. ....
