Areas where the boil water advisory is lifted are: a section of Kula Highway from Lepelepe Place to Mālamahale Place, Lepelepe Place, Malia Uli Place and Mālamahale Place.
For the chlorine to reach the furthest points of the water system, it may take up to seven days. Chlorine is already used as a disinfectant in the Lower Kula and Makawao water systems. Upcountry customers in Olinda, Lower Kula and Makawao are not affected.
The Maui County Department of Water Supply will switch its water distribution disinfectant from chloramines to chlorine beginning Jan. 10 in an attempt to clear away trace amounts of E. coli from the Upper Kula water system.
The Maui County Department of Water Supply has extended the Upcountry boil water advisory to Lepelepe Place, Mālamahale Place and Malia Uli Place, according to an updated issued on Thursday afternoon, Dec. 30, 2021. The department recommends residents boil water for at least a minute before consumption as a precaution against possible bacteria in tap water.
