Nearly 17 months into the coronavirus pandemic, hospitals in the Cincinnati area are devoting more resources to caring for people with “long COVID-19,” the sometimes debilitating efforts of about with the infection.
Tuesday, UC Health unveiled what it called the region’s first clinic dedicated to long-haul COVID to help patients whose primary-care doctors have referred them.
“COVID-19 is not done with us, and we are not done with COVID-19,” said Dr. Charles Hattemer, a UC Health cardiologist, in a UC Health statement. At the new clinic, “Multiple specialties and clinicians combine their expertise to help patients,” he said.
Access to COVID-19 vaccine in Hamilton County and across the Cincinnati region is widening from appointment-only to walk-ins-welcome, and officials said Wednesday they hope the convenience will spur acceptance nearly four months into the campaign.
In contrast to the early weeks of scarcity, vaccine quantity and availability are rapidly growing, said county Commissioner Denise Driehaus. “Everyone in Hamilton County now lives within a 10-minute drive of a vaccination site, on the weekend, during the week, in the morning, in the evening, with an appointment, without an appointment.”
The city of Cincinnati also is widening distributions to walk-in this coming weekend including at a clinic at Paul Brown Stadium, said Marla Fuller, spokeswoman for the city health department. The hours were scheduled for 7 a.m.-7 p.m., Fuller said in an email.
