Rule 5 Draft: Recent picks who stayed with team | San Francisco Giants

share-square-282791 The 2020 Rule 5 Draft is now in the books, and there’s no doubt the 18 players taken in the Major League phase on Thursday, not to mention the 14 teams acquiring players, hope they stick in the big leagues for all of 2021 and beyond. History tells us that’s unlikely to happen. While a solid percentage of Rule 5 picks get at least some big league time the season following their selection, it’s not so easy to stick around for an entire year. Below is the last Rule 5 selection (or player traded for immediately following the Rule 5 Draft) for each team to stick with that team all year. This was no small task, as we had to go digging far into the past to find a player who fit the bill for some teams.

Phillies' Rule 5 Draft history | Philadelphia Phillies

share-square-1354544 PHILADELPHIA MLB’s annual Rule 5 Draft was Thursday, with the Phillies selecting Yankees shortstop Kyle Holder 11th overall. The organization has made its share of Rule 5 picks over the years. Philadelphia selected Hall of Fame right-hander Grover Cleveland Alexander in 1910 (though the rules behind the Rule 5 Draft back then were different than today s incarnation). He worked out pretty well, huh? Other Rule 5 picks included Pinky Whitney (1927), Clay Dalrymple ( 59) and Jack Baldschun (1960). It is an interesting list of players. Here is a look at the Phillies’ Rule 5 Draft picks since 70 (in reverse order): The Phillies immediately traded Machin to the A’s for cash considerations.
