Corrugated box makers say survival is tough
The Uttar Pradesh Corrugated Box Manufacturers Association held a three-day strike from 8-10 March 2021. Addressing a press conference in Varanasi, Rajesh Bhatia the president of the association said, In 3-4 months, the price of kraft paper which is the main raw material for corrugated boxes in the packaging industry has increased by almost 60%.

On behalf of the Association, Bhatia requested the Varanasi MP and Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, to look into this matter - and take action vis-a-vis the unprecedented rise in the value of kraft paper. ....

Print industry fears price hikes will cause major crisis
Industry leaders have warned that the lack of availability of key raw materials as well as significant price increases could end up as the biggest crisis of 2021.
Haymarketsac s print head Prasad Gangurde, who oversees production of the group s magazine titles, said, We purchased 170 gsm art paper at Rs 95/kg in Hyderabad. A similar story is unfolding with maplitho.”
Aurangabad-based Kapil Bhargava heads a print and packaging firm. The company has a 28x40-inch five-colour machine. They produce corrugation e-and f-narrow flute.
Bhargava said, The situation will get worse. The credit period from the dealer has reduced drastically. Every second day, the rates are rising. The paper mills have orders in their hands. ....

It was indeed disconcerting to see an industry, which works 24/7 (in most cases) shut shop for an extended period. This, of course, had a cascading effect on the profit margins. Yet, instead of crying over the spilt milk, the industry picked itself up as soon as the locked opened, and went to business with a renewed vigour. That was last year. With the dawning of a New Year, the industry looks optimistic, not just to make up for the losses it incurred ....
