THE Ekiti State Police Commissioner, Tunde Mobayo, said on Sunday that the state Police Command would partner its Ondo State counterpart to fish out and bring to justice the gunmen that killed an Ekiti State-bound traveller at the Iju, Ondo State end of Akure – Ado Ekiti Road.
Sources said the travellers, who were heading towards Ado Ekiti, were attacked by gunmen at Iju area of the Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State near the border of the two states, following which the driver, who escaped, reported the matter at Ikere Ekiti Police Station while the victim was as well taken to hospital in Ikere Ekiti, Ekiti State for treatment. ....

No fewer than seven persons were killed, weekend, in Osun and Ekiti states by gunmen suspected to be bandits.
Among the victims was a family of six reportedly killed when the gunmen stormed a farming settlement in Wasinmi village, Irewole local government area of Osun State, while the other was a passenger hit by stray bullets, as the gunmen fired at a moving commercial vehicle in Ekiti State.
Policemen, men of the Oodua Peoples Congress, OPC, and Hunters Group of Nigeria were said to have been deployed in the bush in the area to fish out the killers. ....

Gunmen Open Fire On Vehicle, Kill One In Ekiti

Gunmen have shot at a commercial vehicle in transit between Ikere Ekiti and Iju (a border town in Ondo State), killing one passenger on Saturday.
The Police Public Relations Officer Ekiti State, Sunday Abutu confirmed the incident to Channels Television via a statement issued on Sunday.
He said that the driver of the commercial bus and the passengers ran to a police station in Ikere Ekiti and reported that while they were on their way from Ondo State, the gunmen came out of the bush and started shooting.
The driver was said to have increased his speed to escape the impending attack but a passenger was hit by a bullet in the process and later died at Ikere General Hospital. ....

The Police Command in Ekiti says discrete investigation and serious manhunt have been launched to track those behind the alleged shooting at a commercial vehicle on Iju road in Ondo State on Saturday.
The command disclosed this in a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Sunday Abutu, on behalf of the state Commissioner of Police, Mr Tunde Mobayo, on Sunday in Ado Ekiti.
The commercial vehicle and its passengers were said to have been attacked at a location between Ikere Ekiti, headquarters of Ikere Local Government of Ekiti State and Iju, a boundary town in Ondo State. ....

Pandemonium in Ekiti State as Residents Protest Killing Of Two Farmers By Herdsmen

Residents of Isaba Ekiti in the Ikole Council area of Ekiti State, on Saturday, protested the killing of two farmers by suspected Fulani herdsmen on Friday.
The angry residents, comprising youths, women and the aged, chanted war songs, made bonfires and rained curses on the killers of the two farmers just as vehicular and commercial activities were affected for a greater part of Saturday while the protesters blocked major roads in the community.

According to PUNCH, the victims were identified as Toyin Akeju, popularly known as Jisoro in the community, while the other, called Daodu, was said to be a labourer invited to work on the farm. The two victims were mauled on their farmland. ....
