The DA in Gauteng welcomes the election of Cllr Cilliers Brink as the Executive Mayor of the City of Tshwane. Mr Brink now leads the City’s Multi-Party Coalition government and we, like our coalition partners, have full confidence in his ability to deliver on the promise of clean and compassionate governance to make the Capital City one that works for all its residents. The lingering effects of reckless lockdown policies, unlawful ANC interventions in the City from other spheres of government, poor financial decisions, and the continuous and escalating impact of prolonged stage 6 load-shedding has caused significant hardships for the City, especially with regards to its had a devastating impact on Tshwane’s finances.
The African National Congress (ANC) said on Wednesday that the emergence of coalition governments at a local government level because of unintended consequence of service delivery lapses and uncontrollable governance challenges faced by successive ANC leadership over the years. The party noted that coalition politics in Tshwane, under the leadership of the Democratic Alliance (DA), have been steeped in skewed service delivery, which has little to do with tackling the plight of poor black African people, who are in the majority.
