UMATILLA COUNTY â Umatilla Countyâs two state prisons finished the first step of immunizing all adults in custody against COVID-19 this week by successfully offering the first doses to all inmates, according to spokespersons from the two prisons. Two Rivers Correctional Institution in Umatilla finished offering first doses to all adults in custody at the prison on Wednesday, March 3, according to a TRCI spokesperson, which capped off initial vaccine efforts at the countyâs two prisons. In all, 1,263 inmates at TRCI were vaccinated of the 1,726 offered a shot. The prison held two large clinics and three smaller ones to vaccinate its inmates. ....
UMATILLA â The Oregon Department of Corrections has announced the hiring of a new superintendent at Two Rivers Correctional Institution in Umatilla, according to a press release. Erin Reyes, a former law enforcement, state government and public safety official with more than 25 years of experience, was announced as the new superintendent on Feb. 22. âI never would have imagined my life and career path would lead me to where I am today,â Reyes said. Reyes steps into the role after Tyler Blewett resigned in December 2020 after holding the position for a year. UMATILLA â Two inmates at Two Rivers Correctional Institution in Umatilla have died in the past week after testing positive for COVID-19, according to press releases from the Oregon Department of Corrections, bringing the recent death toll spurred by the surge in cases at the prison to four since the beginning of January. Data from the department of corrections as of Wednesday, Jan. 13, shows that 101 inmates and 24 staff members at TRCI have tested positive for COVID-19 in the past week. The prisonâs total number of active cases among inmates has also climbed to 258, according to state data as of Jan. 13. Thatâs the most among prisons in Oregon, with the second highest coming from Oregon State Penitentiary in Salem, which reportedly has 128 active cases among inmates. ....
