Jill saward who was the first rape victim to waive her right to anonymity has died at the age of 51. She was assaulted during a burglary at herfathers vicarage in ealing in west london in 1986. At the trial, the judge caused controversy when he said her suffering had been not so great. Jill saward went on to campaign on behalf of victims of Sexual Violence as well as help to train Police Officers and judges. Tonight the attorney Generaljeremy Wright said her tireless campaigning had helped ensure victims were now at the heart of the criminal justice system. Phil mackie looks back at her life. Jill saward, the first survivor of rape to waive her right to anonymity, has died. She was 51. In 1986 she suffered a violent assault by two men during a burglary at her fathers vicarage in west london. At the end of the trial of the rapists, thejudge said her trauma had not been so great. Jill saward went on to become a tireless campaigner and many believe her efforts changed the way we now deal with sex crime and its victims.
