Bay Area Reporter :: New TGI-led alliance seeks $15 million for state trans health fund


A new alliance of predominately transgender, gender-nonconforming and intersex-led organizations has at the top of its agenda securing taxpayer dollars for a wellness fund created last year by California legislators.
As the Bay Area Reporter previously reported, Governor Gavin Newsom signed Assembly Bill 2218 into law last September. The bill established the Transgender Wellness and Equity Fund but the money for it was stripped from the final version.
The bill intended to assist organizations serving people that identify as transgender, gender-nonconforming, or intersex, and help create or fund TGI-specific housing programs and partnerships with hospitals, health care clinics and other medical providers to provide TGI-focused health care did not look like it was going to pass at one point, due to its $15 million price tag at a time of budgetary concern prompted by to the COVID-19 pandemic. ....

Pride Live, a social advocacy and community engagement organization for the LGBTQ+ community, today announced its fourth annual Stonewall Day, a global campaign to elevate awareness and support for the Stonewall legacy and the continuing fight for full LGBTQ+ equality. Stonewall Day will be hosted on Sunday, June 6th.
Adam Lambert, on behalf of his Feel Something Foundation, will curate the musical performances for Stonewall Day 2021, a virtual celebration that will include rallying messages from Stonewall Day Ambassadors and special guests. Through his Foundation, Lambert will help bring together artists of diverse genres, generations, and cultural backgrounds to create a unique musical experience that captures the heart and soul of the LG ....

On Sunday, June 6th, Adam Lambert on behalf of his Feel Something Foundation is teaming up with Pride Live to curate a celebration of the fourth annual Stonewall Day. For the day, the Queen frontman is bringing together a diverse and talented lineup of artists as well as special guests to celebrate the LGBTQ+ community’s resilience and look forward to where we still have to go.
Lambert launched the Feel Something Foundation in early 2019 as a non-profit that aims “to ensure support is given to the myriad of issues that continue to disproportionately affect the LGBTQ+ community.” They support organizations and charities that fight for the rights of all members of the community and have missions “directly focused on impacting the LGBTQ+ co ....

George Gascón's plans to overhaul prosecutions meets resistance

On his first day in office, Los Angeles County Dist. Atty. George Gascón announced sweeping changes that he promised would dramatically alter how justice is delivered in the county.
But in the week since his heady proclamations, Gascón’s reform plans have been met with resistance from judges, his own prosecutors and crime victims, who are challenging both the ethics of his vision and whether he has the authority to carry out one of its main components.
