Prime Minister Imran Khan on Thursday called upon member countries of the Developing Eight (D8) grouping to expand the scope of trade between themselves and mobilise resources to tackle the challenge of the Covid-19 pandemic.
He was addressing the 10th virtual summit of the D-8 Organisation for Economic Cooperation, a group that aims to facilitate cooperation in the field of development and counts Bangladesh, Iran, Turkey, Malaysia, Egypt, Indonesia, Nigeria and Pakistan among its members.
The theme of the summit, hosted by Bangladesh, was Partnership for a Transformative World: Harnessing Power of Youth and Technology . ....

PUTRAJAYA: Malaysia on Thursday proposed to the D-8 Organisation for Economic Cooperation (D-8) the possibility of having Reciprocal Covid-19 Vaccine Certificate Recognition among D-8 member states to speed up the reopening of hardest-hit sectors.
Malaysian Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin put forward the proposal in his keynote speech at the 10th Summit of the D-8 on Thursday as he addressed the summit virtually, in view of the vaccines roll-out plans that are already in motion in most countries.
Muhyiddin is leading Malaysia’s delegation to the virtual summit, chaired by Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Wazed. The D-8 consists of eight developing countries namely Bangladesh, Egypt, Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, Nigeria, Pakistan and Turkey. ....

DHAKA, April 8, 2021 (BSS) â Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today urged the D-8 leaders to come forward for a sustainable solution to the Rohingya crisis and address the challenges posed by climate change alongside laying emphasis on trade, investment, cooperation and harnessing the power of youth.
âI would like to urge you (D-8 leaders) to put pressure on Myanmar for taking back the Rohingyas,â she said, expressing her concern that if the crisis is not resolved, it may create security concerns in the region and beyond.
She mentioned the Rohingya crisis as an urgent issue for Bangladesh as it is causing severe impact on the countryâs environment, society and the economy. ....

Agriculture sector holds great potential for youths, Muhyiddin tells D-8 Summit

The Prime Minister said local youths have started to realise agriculture holds a promising future.
Smart farming has rapidly become the future of agriculture.
The food supply chain can be improved by introducing enabling technologies, such as the Internet of Things (IoT) or traceability systems, that have the potential to increase food safety and production transparency, he said on Thursday (April 8) during the 10th Summit of the D-8 Organisation for Economic Cooperation (D-8).
The virtual summit was hosted by Bangladesh.
The theme for this year s summit is Partnership for a Transformative World: Harnessing the Power of Youth and Technology”.
The six other countries in the D-8 are Egypt, Indonesia, Iran, Nigeria, Pakistan and Turkey. ....
