make it more magical. and of course, we had someone else that was also going for the same experiences with our parents that understood what life was like. and so, i guess it is by everything we feel like we are sisters first. and we are daughters and we all play roles in life that we started off entering the world together as sisters. that makes me want to cry! your sister used the word ordinary. what is your like ordinary? yes, it was. it s funny because people come up to both of us all the time it s a you know, you are so normal on tv. and it is sort of a strange thing to hear because we want to think of ourselves as exceptional but we are normal. we grew up, our grandparents, they all made us who we are but our grandparents on my mother side we do not have anything named after them, they have not been on c-span interviewed by people like you, whose names are only because we were - they were from midland texas.my grandfather was a homebuilder. and he is one of - my mo

[applause] thanks for making time on the program for this conversation about the future of our profession. as brian said i am randy and i spent most of my adult life as chief justice of the spring court and i now do senior service and are in a mediator court and i have an appointment over the indiana school of law. to my right is rebecca who after a career as a trial judge and a practice into more than a decade on the colorado supreme court she left there ten or 11 years ago to be the founding director of the institute for the advancement of the american legal system. she does all sorts of research and work on the improvement of courts and the improvement of legal education of the legal profession. then professor william henderson is certainly a man the circuit, if there ever was one. his legal education at the university of chicago became a clerk at the seventh
your dad went to laos, and thailand and tell us about your upbringing and the process of living through the experiences you live through that you developed your world view? growing up in the foreign service, i saw two things. one, we were always in pretty dangerous ask impoverished places. i saw around me everywhere american families who had chosen to go where, if their kid was seriously hurt, there was not a good hospital or there were not medicines where you could not go to the movies or the water wasn t safe to drink or if anybody got bit by a dog you had to go through the rabies series because it was probably rabid. people didn t talk about it as much as we do now but something mattered. something mattered about america that was worth listing. they were confidant in america and this created a beacon, i think, and many countries around the world. it came in slowly. nobody gave me a lecture but the important role in the world is enough to put people in harms way. not ju
