Cheryl Messer-Lusty was hired as Longmeadow s COVID-19 Public Health Coordinator on Oct. 21. The position was funded until Dec. 31 through the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act.

LONGMEADOW Unless funding from the CARES Act is extended or another source is identified, some of the resources that have been established during the COVID-19 pandemic will come to an end by the end of the year.
In Longmeadow, that funding includes a position for a COVID-19 public health coordinator, according to Town Manager Lyn Simmons. The position was created to fill a gap that was identified over the summer when the community was more in a lull, she said. ....

According to Moderator Rebecca Townsend, the meeting lasted one minute.
“The meeting went as smoothly as it possibly could have gone,” she said in a statement. “There was no discussion; the votes on the motion to take no action and dissolve were unanimous.”
“People understood the need to avoid gathering, and the need to dissolve this meeting,” said Townsend, who had previously postponed the meeting several times based on concerns about the coronavirus pandemic. “I appreciate that the community placed their trust in this process. I got a couple of contacts (email, call) glad that it went as it did. I’ve not heard complaints. It was such a tough position for the town to be in, and I am glad we were able to come to a solution that preserved the peoples’ rights and safety.” ....
