Marblehead s Glabicky Park benefits from Arborists Day of Service Iron Tree offers up $5,000 worth of work in Day of Service Wicked Local It would have been easy to take down the old and overgrown trees in Glabicky Park but Tree Warden Jon Fobert had a better idea. “Instead of cutting them down because they’re declining I thought we should lead by example and give them a little TLC,” Fobert said. The TLC came via Iron Tree Service, which donated a day of service to the town as part of the Massachusetts Arborists Associations Arbor Day Day of Service. Fobert said he was casting around for an Arbor Day project when Iron Tree was looking for the same. He called the day of service a great way for tree companies to give back to communities and to raise awareness of arboriculture. ....
49 articles, 1 night = Town Meeting in Marblehead Spending was approved, peace, diversity, and snow shoveling were denied under the big top Wicked Local Marblehead Town Meeting cleared 49 articles in three hours flat Monday, passing a $103 million budget with no discussion and voting down staggered elections, peace and quiet and, once again, a ban on gas-powered leaf blowers. Here are the highlights: Article 15 generated the first serious discussion. Town Meeting approved spending $314,000 on storm-drainage construction but former Waldron Street resident Toby Reiley warned residents that “if not this year then next year” they need to up the ante. He pointed to an abandoned storm drain in his old neighborhood that causes flooding issues. He said the town needs to start fully funding its infrastructure issues. ....
STATE OF THE TOWN: Marblehead fiscal vital signs are healthy Wicked Local Marblehead’s fiscal vital signs are alive and well as town officials begin to assemble a Fiscal Year 2022 municipal budget for Town Meeting’s consideration in May. Town Administrator Jason Silva delivered that overall message in the 2021 State of the Town Address on Friday morning before a virtual audience of town officials and residents. However, as the town carries out the budgetary process, he said the town needs to keep a watchful eye on a few outstanding items as well as manage increased financial pressures. “Our free-cash reliance is still an issue that we re really focusing on and really monitoring closely and trying to manage to our growing capital needs. We know that our capital infrastructure and facility needs aren t going away,” he said. “And as years go on and on, we re trying to be more comprehensive.” ....
Wicked Local Trump Update Back in July of this year, I wrote a letter comparing 1000 Covid deaths a day to having 2/3 of a Titanic being sunk daily. Surely someone would fault the president for his abysmal response then. 50 million people thought it was a hoax. However, now there are almost 2 Titanics going down every day. And he is making up stories about a rigged election. Is that like Nero fiddling while Rome burned? Still a hoax? Norton Halber, Dodge Road Read the budget not the vision By 2040 we will have stopped burning oil in our homes, gasoline in our boats, and municipal waste in Revere. Electricity will come from “carbon free” sources like nuclear and wind. We ll have EVs but ideally travel by shoe leather and bicycle. “Carbon offsets” will cover the rest. That s according to the town s newly minted Sustainability vision, which landed in my inbox last week. ....
