BBCNEWS HARDtalk July 4, 2024

Zac, lord goldsmith, welcome to hardtalk. Thank you for having me. Its a pleasure to have you here. Just a couple of months ago, you left rishi sunak s government and, as you left, you lobbed a political grenade in his direction. Why did you do that . My concern is that, you know, im maybe a rare thing, a minister who cares passionately, or cared passionately about my portfolio. And ifound myjob was becoming untenable, it was becoming impossible for me to go forward. It was becoming virtually impossible to prevent government from sliding back. You say, because it was a pledge of something over. £11. 6 billion over five years. Over five years to be invested i ....

Those are our values. It doesnt matter if you are in a different political party. Different political tradition. We always quite literally stand out from what is right. This is another sign of a desperate tory party willing to indulge in dangerous culture wars. Lets be honest, they have nothing else to offer the electorate. We know that the westminster establishment will throw everything at the snp. I am telling you to the, it wont work. No matter what the westminster parties throughout as, there is one thing we have that they will never have. That is an alternative to broken Brexit Britain. And that alternative is independence. That is why the snp will win the general election in scotland. We have to win the general election, because when the snp wins, scotland whence. Scotland wins. We are the only party that will put scotland first. In the years to come we will look back on our 2024 election victory as a crucial step in securin ....

Princess dianas brother was speaking in an interview to be broadcast tomorrow on the bbc s sunday with laura kuenssberg. Earlier i spoke to graham satchell, who has been reviewing the material in the interview and asked him what the main thrust of earl spencers comments were. Well, this was a searingly honest interview with earl spencer, and at times difficult to watch, to be honest. He has written a book about his experiences of his childhood, particularly at boarding school, and he talks about suffering shocking levels of violence from the age of eight and being sexually abused from the age of 11. He also talks in some detail about his experience at home with his sister, princess diana, and particularly suffering at the hands of a violent nanny, nanny forster. And this is what he had to say. Really damaging violence to children is going to affect them, whatever house they come from, whatever family theyre born into. And that nanny who did that to us, i mean, she used to crack our
