Kanu fumes as South-East govs reject IPOB ‘police’

The leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, on Sunday condemned the South-East governors for rejecting a security outfit purportedly launched by the secessionist group.
A statement on Sunday by IPOB’s Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful, described the governors’ action as shameful.
IPOB had last week announced the inauguration of a security out named: ‘Eastern Security Network’ to among other things, checkmate the activities of criminal herdsmen in Biafraland.
But the Governor of Ebonyi State, Dave Umahi, who doubles as the Chairman of the South-East Governors, distanced the governments and people of the area from the IPOB security arrangement. ....

Amid the controversies over where the ruling All Progressives Congress might zone its presidential ticket for the 2023 election, a chieftain of the party and Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr Chris Ngige, has said the founding fathers of the party won’t speak on the zoning arrangement until 2021.
He said nine among those of them who founded the APC were still in the party and that they would speak at the appropriate time whether or not there was an agreement on the zoning of the presidential ticket of the party for the 2023 election.
He said, “Nine of us are still in the APC. I can’t speak on the issue now. Most of us agreed that we are going to speak next year – from (Bola) Tinubu to Chief (Bisi) Akande, Chief Olusegun Osoba, myself; Tom Ikimi, Yusuf Ali; Ogbonnaya Onu; Danjuma Goje and Senator Wamakko.” ....

Anambra sacks three traditional rulers

The Anambra State Government has dethroned three traditional rulers.
The sacked monarchs were amongst the 12 rulers suspended in the state for visiting Abuja to see the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), without the state government’s approval.
A statement by the state Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Community Affairs, Greg Obi, said the sacked monarchs should submit their certificates of recognition to the secretaries of their local government areas.
According to the statement, the affected monarchs are Igwe Chijioke Nwankwo of Nawfia, Igwe Anthony Onyekwere of Owelle and Igwe G.B.C. Mbakwe of Abacha. ....

The Anambra State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress has vowed to take over the governance of Anambra State as citizens prepare to vote for a new governor in 2021.
State caretaker committee chairman of the party, Basil Ejidike, said this during the inauguration of other members of the party’s caretaker committee at the party Secretariat in Awka, the state capital, on Wednesday.
Ejidike said, “As new leaders of the party, our duty is to ensure successful running of the party at grassroots in order to maintain its strength in the state.

Three killed as hoodlums attack, raze Anambra police station

An irate mob, on Wednesday, set three police stations ablaze at Igboukwu, Ekwulobia and Oko in the Aguata and Orumba North local government areas of Anambra State.
An eyewitness, who gave his name simply as Goddy, said the Igboukwu Police Station was set ablaze around 8am.
He said trouble began when some policemen on duty in the area killed a commercial motorcyclist on Tuesday while trying to extort him.
Goddy stated, “As I’m talking to you, the place is up in flame. The mob, made up of commercial motorcycle operators, is moving to the Ekwulobia Police Station to also set it ablaze. ....
