With Democrats Joe Biden and Kamala Harris in the White House and slim majorities in the House Senate, Democrats hold all the levers of power in Washington for the first time in more than a decade.
For the six Democrats in Colorado’s nine-member congressional delegation, it’s a chance to wield influence by helping to steer state and national priorities and pursue legislation, including bills that idled in the Senate for years when the chamber was under Republican control.

EDITORIAL: Trump serves a parting blow to national defense


We know of no qualified military space expert, including an array of retired Air Force generals, who think Space Command should leave Colorado Springs. The Pentagon’s team of experts who studied the future of Space Command recommended keeping it in the Springs for a broad array of cultural, economic and strategic reasons.
Trump’s decision came after Air Force Secretary Barbara Barrett reportedly traveled to Washington this week to advise Trump of the Pentagon’s decision. Sources tell Gazette Senior Military Editor Tom Roeder the commander in chief summarily overruled the Pentagon’s decision that favored Colorado.
The Gazette’s editorial board feared this outcome and expressed that concern in a Sept. 16 editorial. Trump had a close relationship with then-Sen. Pandemic prompts Alaska National Guard to scale back Operation Santa Claus

ANCHORAGE, Alaska On a tiny speck of a frozen runway on the north bank of the Yukon River, nearly a hundred miles northwest of Fairbanks, Christmas was delivered in a most unusual way.
An Alaska National Guard helicopter descended through a rotor-whipped cloud of snow in Stevens Village, a tiny community of about 30 people. Townspeople rushed to the airstrip on their snowmobiles after seeing the helicopter land and then watched as guardsmen wearing flight helmets unloaded boxes containing wrapped gifts for just about everyone in the community. ....
