somebody said getting to people together to write a book is like getting three people together to make a baby. [laughter] it really wasn t like that for us. [laughter] i think we work pretty well together. but governor thompson actually reach out to me seven years ago in 2011 and we met out at the esquire club on the north side and had a late breakfast and talked about collaboration, shook hands, never had more of a deal than that. and ended up i interviewed him about the first race for governor. we had to do a sample chapter for ew press, our publisher. and that went pretty well. and the process seemed happy. then he decided to run for the senate. we got sidetracked. and never really got really engaged until about three or four years ago, so it still took quite a while. i did 30 hours about approximately of interviews with him. in various locations, usually out at his house. on the east side of madison. but also in the car sometimes. and then of course i transcribed the tape
