GORAKHPUR: A 22 years old man succumbed to burns after battling for life for several hours at BRD Medical College in Gorakhpur on Friday evening. The deceased Rakesh Chaurasia, son of Manik Chand, of Makrandpur village in Badhalganj police station area of Gorakhpur district was preparing for Army and police jobs and was about to get married soon. The uncle of the deceased filed a complaint alleging some unidentified assailants immolated Rakesh by throwing oil on him while he was asleep on Thursday night and putting him on fire, following which police registered an FIR on Saturday. As per reports, Rakesh was sleeping in verandah while his uncle and his son were asleep on another bed. At around 1am on Thursday night, some unidentified assailants came and poured oil on Rakesh when he was asleep and lit a match stick. ....
Varanasi: A unique floating solar energy exhibition was organized under Suraj Se Samriddhi (prosperity through the sun) campaign at Assi Ghat in the midstream of Ganga on Friday afternoon. The floating exhibition displayed messages about the need to increase the use of solar energy in every sphere of society and keep the environment safe. Organized by Climate Agenda, an organization working for the protection of environment, this exhibition was inaugurated by the district project officer of Uttar Pradesh New & Renewable Energy Development Agency (UPNEDA), Ranvijay Singh. PSPL leader Shivpal Singh Yadav receives the first dose of Covid-19 vaccine at Dr Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences in Lucknow on Friday LUCKNOW: With coronavirus cases spiralling in Uttar Pradesh, chief minister Yogi Adityanath has directed officials to make a higher number of level 2 and level 3 hospitals functional in the state, with varying facilities for Covid treatment, many of which had been discontinued when cases had started declining. The CM said these hospitals should be started especially in districts where caseload is high, such as Lucknow, Kanour, Meerut, Varanasi, Prayagraj, Ghaziabad and Agra. Anticipating a return of people to villages due to the panchayat polls, and as rural areas are throwing up about 50% of the total cases being reported from the state, Yogi said that ‘nigrani committees’ should be activated to keep a check on those who are returning and on home isolation cases. ....
Varanasi: The controversy over jailed mafia don turned MLA Mukhtar Ansari being ferried from Ropar jail to Mohali court in Punjab on Wednesday in an ambulance with registration number of Uttar Pradesh saw ex-MLA Krishnanand Rai’s widow and BJP MLA Rai and a doctor sharing same name, Dr Alka Rai, demanding probe into the incident. As soon as it was known that an ambulance with UP registration number (UP41 AT 7171) had ferried Mukhtar from Ropar jail to Mohali court, it was tracked and was found registered in the name of a Mau-based private hospital, being run by the brother of Dr Alka Rai, who is posted in a government hospital and is also general secretary of BJP’s Gorakhpur regional unit women wing. ....
