i m dan ashley. i m carolyn johnson. the harsh reality of the budget crisis is hitting home tonight. the police force will have to serve and protect from 70 fewer officers on the streets. abc7 s lisa amin gulezian is live with more on a difficult time for those who wear a badge. lisa? very true, dan. tomorrow starting at 8:00 a.m., officers will be coming by at the police department to turn in their badges. today they leaned on their union for support and for options for the future. i do feel worried about where the city is headed. crime is on the rise. he is not just a san jose resident and taxpayer. he is also a san jose police officer. and tomorrow he will be laid off. he is one of 68 officers losing their jobs because of the city s $115 million budget deficit. and he is angry. i am mad at the politicians involved that are doing this for the politics side. i don t think they have their heart in the right place. in a statement mayor chuck reid says, we have s
alan: the fourth fire in less than a week burns nearly an acre of land in antioch. contra costa county firefighters are investigating what they say are suspicious circumstances surrounding four fires that broke out in antioch over the course of a week. tomas roman is life in antioch. what s the connection here? reporter: the connection is these fires have been starting like clockwork. the people who lives live in this community because someone has been set setting fires in the park behind their homes, four in the past week, and one yesterday. yesterday, it burned that, and today it came over here. reporter: william king is talking about the grass fire that came chris this close to his home. firefighters put the fire out but not before it damaged an outbuilding. all three of these fires are suspicious in nature. they re long a walking path with easy access. so we re concerned about fires starting, one, this early in the season, and, two, we do have somebody start
