Concerns held for Temuka aviary birds as winter approaches

Laurie Sullivan, of Temuka, wants the Timaru District Council to get on with building a new aviary at the town s domain.
A Temuka Domain aviary volunteer, concerned for the birds’ welfare, is urging the Timaru District Council to get on and build a new aviary as winter approaches.
Laurie Sullivan said the ageing aviary was “cold and miserable” in winter, and he has cleared the wire netting roof of leaves with a leaf blower and rake twice in the past week, to allow more sunlight in.

Timaru's aviary at Caroline Bay closes for refurbishment

Timaru s aviary at Caroline Bay has been closed for a $70,000 upgrade.
The work, expected to take about two months, will replace the 40 year old netting on the geodesic dome section which was built in the early 80s in Christchurch and rebuilt in its current site in 2009.
A Timaru District Council press release said the restoration job will also refresh the vegetation in the free flight area along with a cleaning of all the facilities.
There has been an aviary in some form at Caroline Bay since the first one was gifted by the Caroline Bay Association (CBA) in 1930, a council spokesperson said. ....

Caroline Bay's Space-Age Aviary Closes For Refurb

The aviary at Caroline Bay will close for approximately
two months from tomorrow for refurbishment.
The major
work will be the replacement of the forty year old netting
on the geodesic dome section of the aviary, which was built
in the early 80s and rebuilt in its current site in
2009.
The $70,000 restoration job will also see a
refresh of the vegetation in the free flight area and
cleaning of all the facilities.
There has been an
