Three military helicopters flew over Washington Crossing Tuesday morning to honor Colonel John A. Maier, who passed away on Dec. 28. (Shutterstock)
WASHINGTON CROSSING, PA Three Blackhawk helicopters from the Army National Guard flew over Washington Crossing National Cemetery Tuesday morning to honor a retired army colonel from New Jersey.
John A. Maier Sr., 91, of Pennington, New Jersey, passed away on Dec. 28, 2020, according to his obituary. The Hopewell Borough native retired from military service in 1986 as the State Aviation Officer for the New Jersey Army National Guard, with almost 7,000 hours of accident-free flight time.
As a ranking officer and pilot for the NJ National Guard, Col. Maier flew generals, governors and senators around the state and to Washington, D.C. He later served as the airport manager at Mercer County Airport before retiring in 1992. ....
