NHM director calls for collective effort to eliminate TB

Our CorrespondentKohima, Oct. 27 (EMN): Mission Director of National Health Mission (NHM), Dr. Thorusie Katiry, on Thursday called for collective effort from all sections of society to fight for elimination of tuberculosis (TB) in the state. He was addressing the sensitisation of elimination efforts and updates on TB and the NTEP for private practitioners on National TB Elimination Program (NTEP) here at Hotel Japfü. The official expounded the role of the private practitioners in achieving India’s ambitious plan to eliminate TB by 2025 ahead of the world’s target by 2030, and highlighted how partnership can help in mapping accuracy of data and, accordingly, plan out the TB programmes. Nagaland: Social taboo hampering fight against HIV/AIDS

Our Correspondent Kohima, Sep. 19 (EMN): The taboos around HIV/AIDS still exist in the society unlike other diseases, and most people suffering from the disease lose confidence to live a quality life owing to the circumstances, said Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Kohima, Shanavas C, on Monday. He was addressing the inaugural programme of Sampoorna Suraksha Kendra (SSK) at Conference Hall, School of Nursing, Naga Hospital Authority Kohima (NHAK). Maintaining that the prevalence rate is still high in Nagaland with 1.45%, he recalled his early days of service as Assistant Commissioner at Tuensang, where despite high prevalence rate, people didn’t come forward (to take a test or seek help). He asserted that the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) 2030 to end HIV/AIDS is not an easy task, pointing out that ‘there is taboo, people don’t come forward and not much awareness is created’. Cancer should be made notifiable disease, says health expert

Our Correspondent Kohima, Sep. 9 (EMN): Alluding that the Northeast is the hotspot of cancer in the country and Nagaland has a high prevalence in cancer incidence, which is a huge burden to the state and a matter of concern, Dr. V. Khamo, Consultant at Naga Hospital Authority, Kohima (NHAK), on Friday impressed upon the government on the need to make cancer a notifiable disease. Khamo, who is also the principal investigator of Population Based Cancer Registry Nagaland (NHAK) and officer in-charge of BSL labs, Research and Ethics, was giving a presentation on ‘Common Cancer Burden: Global and India Perspective with Special reference to Nagaland’ at Hotel Vivor in Kohima, during the Continuing Medical Education (CME) on early detection and prevention of common cancers. Nagaland: 15100 persons in Kohima benefitted from health campaign

Dimapur, June 10 (EMN): A total of 15,100 population including 823 persons with hypertension (5.45%), 710 persons with diabetes (4.70%), 55 persons with cancer (0.36%), 107 persons with kidney disease (0.71%) and 40 persons with TB (0.3%) from 9243 households across 42 colonies in Kohima have benefitted from the social health responsibility campaign. This was disclosed by the chief medical officer (CMO) of Kohima, Dr. Vezokholu Theyo, during a review of the social health responsibility campaign held at de-Oriental Hotel in Kohima on June 9. The social health responsibility campaign was an initiative of the CMO of office, in collaboration with the district administration and AKMWP on the theme “Leave no one’s health behind: invest in the health system for all,” funded by NUHM, Nagaland.
