 Fran Carter Memorial Scholarship Fashion Show The Frontier Community College Foundation and Carnaby Square are teaming up again to host the Fran Carter Memorial Scholarship Fashion Show, Sunday November 6th at the First Christian Church in Fairfield. This is the fourth fashion show the two entities have sponsored together and the second with proceeds benefiting the Fran Carter Memorial Scholarship. "Fran played such an important role in the college foundation and was one of Carnaby Square's biggest fans. I couldn't think of a better way to honor my friend's legacy than working with the foundation to raise money in honor of her for scholarships," said Kristi Hornung, owner and operator of Carnaby Square. Edwards County Real Estate Taxes Due Friday Edwards County Treasurer Debbie Smith has announced that the first payment of the 2021 payable 2022 Real Estate Taxes is due tomorrow, Friday, October 28th, with the second installment due on Monday, November 28, 2022. This year's tax extension amounts to $6,490,579.88. Payments may be made in person, by mail, or in the outside drop box. The box is located in front of the Cell Tower on the northeast side of the Courthouse (Sheriff's side). Anyone who uses the drop box should include a daytime phone number on their information. Those who wish to pay online using a credit or debit card may go to www.govtechtaxpro.com which will add a 2.5% fee that goes to the credit card company. The instructions are listed on the back of the tax bills on how to pay online. The Mobile Home Tax due date was July 29, 2022. The Fairfield Public School District Board of Education met last night and set the graduation date for May 12th at 6:30. They also approved the FY23 calendar, which will be similar to this year's but will have a two-week break for Christmas. The board approved a project to install LED lights in the basement at Center Street and everywhere at North Side for a total cost of $21,900; Interim Superintendant Diana Zurliene said the lights would pay for themselves in three years in savings. Fairfield Mayor Mike Dreith continues to tout the benefits of a proposed business district for the City, which would see a one percent sales tax increase for most businesses. Its boundaries would be from Bullard's to WalMart and a small jut on South First Street, and he says two of every three dollars spent in it are from people who don't live in Fairfield.
