School districts can see the finish line after a tough year negotiating remote, in-person, and hybrid instruction, and everything in-between. Now they’re looking to end the year with students back at their desks.
Ending with a return to normal, however brief, is the overwhelming preference of parents everywhere.
“So many parents and teachers are relieved to have this time, as small as it is, for students to transition into what we’re calling the normalized school experience,” said Karen D’Avino, the superintendent in Vernon, N.J., which on April 12 switched from fully remote learning to in-person instruction. “Hopefully by the time September comes, we’ll have more students back.” ....

Annually Dakota College at Bottineau celebrates Earth Day. This year the celebration we be held in a different manner as they have been recognized as a 2019 Tree Campus USA(r). The Tree Campus USA program honors colleges and universities for effective campus forest management and for engaging staff and students in conservation goals.
The state Arbor Day celebration will be held on Friday, May 7, 2021 on the grounds of Dakota College at Bottineau, one of North Dakota s four Tree Campus Higher Education campuses. The event will take place on the lawn just south of Old Main. The event will begin at 10:00 AM, with a ceremony featuring current State Forester Thomas Claeys, former State Forester Larry Kotchman, and Campus Dean Dr. Jerry Migler. A tree planting and refreshments will follow the ceremony. All are invited to join and celebrate. ....

Terminated Lenape Valley HS superintendent files suit against board

Lenape Valley Regional High School s superintendent is suing his own Board of Education, claiming his contract was not renewed in December because the board was seeking a younger candidate to take his place.
Paul DiRupo, the 64-year-old superintendent at the Stanhope school, contends he was discriminated due to his age when Richard Kuncken, the board president, told him no other explanation for his non-renewal other than the board was going younger.
DiRupo, who served in several capacities at Lenape for 32 years, filed the complaint in Sussex County Superior Court on Feb. 24.
The board s decision was egregious, unlawful and wanton, and reckless and caused DiRupo severe emotional damages and pain and suffering due to the humiliation of being terminated, the suit states. ....
