SAN DIEGO, Calif. — From elementary schools to Fortune 500 companies, leaders are re-examining inequities within their organizations, meeting the moment after George Floyd’s murder and global protests that followed.
But diversity training isn t new, and studies show it s often ineffective.
Miles McPherson, the pastor of the Rock Church in San Diego, is working to bring a different kind of training to communities.
“Every pillar in our society is looking and using and leveraging diversity training of some kind, said McPherson. This applies to all of those because it’s really about our humanity.” ....

Leaders in the civil rights movement across San Diego County cheered the jury verdict in the Derek Chauvin criminal case Tuesday, saying the trio of guilty findings will ripple across the community and help improve policing across the nation.
But as welcome as the verdicts were, more work remains to be done, several activists said.
“As the mother of a Black son, my first born, this is a step in the right direction,” said Francine Maxwell, president of the San Diego branch of the NAACP. “This has taught my son today what hope looks like, that when police don’t obey the law, this is what justice looks like.” ....

Michael Brunker hopes to unite a divided nation with 'The Third Option' training program -


SAN DIEGO (KUSI) – Michael Brunker is seeking to unite the country at a polarizing time by using strategy from Miles McPherson’s book, “The Third Option: Hope for a Racially Divided Nation,” which he has developed into a community and training program.
He calls the community, The Third Option City, and the program, The Third Option Similarity Training, which includes six video lessons, a facilitator guide, digital workbooks, and group training.
The Third Option City is a community that seeks value in people that make up the diversity of earth.
