'Tandav': SC refuses to grant makers protection from arrest, issues notice on request to club FIRs

The Supreme Court on Wednesday refused to grant the makers and actors of Amazon Prime web series
Tandav protection from arrest,
Live Law reported. Multiple first information reports have been filed against them for allegedly hurting religious sentiments.
A bench of Justices Ashok Bhushan, RS Reddy and MR Shah refused the relief from arrest. “Your right to freedom of speech is not absolute,” the court said, according to the
Hindustan Times. “You cannot play the role of character that hurts the sentiments of a community.”
The court, though, issued a notice on their request to club the FIRs filed against them in different states, according to Live Law. The Supreme Court also said that the petitioners were free to approach high Ccourts. ....

'Tandav' web series controversy: Makers apologise, say no intent to hurt religious sentiments

Tandavapologised on Monday evening for unintentionally hurting sentiments after the Uttar Pradesh Police filed a first information report against the makers. The apology was released by the director of the series, Ali Abbas Zafar, who was named in the FIR along with three others.
“We have been closely monitoring viewer reactions to the web series
Tandav and today during a discussion, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting have informed us regarding a large number of grievances and petitions received on various facets of the web series with serious concerns and apprehensions regarding its content hurting the sentiments of the people,” the statement read. ....
