Thando Mahlangu says he has forgiven a centre manager who recently asked him to leave Boulders Shopping Centre because he was dressed in traditional Ndebele attire.

A Johannesburg shopping mall manager who kicked Ndebele activist Thando Mahlangu out of the centre “because he was dressed inappropriately” should make a public apology in person to Mahlangu and be reinstated as per Mahlangu’s wish.
This is a recommendation made by the Commission for the Promotion and Protection of the Rights of Cultural‚ Religious and Linguistic Communities (CRL) which investigated the matter. ....

Redefine Properties, the employer of suspended Boulder s Mall manager Jose Maponyane, says it welcomes the recommendations of the Commission for the Promotion and Protection of the Rights of Cultural, Religious and Linguistic Communities (CRL).
Redefine acknowledges and appreciates the role played by the Cultural, Religious and Linguistic Rights Commission (CRL) and supports and respects its work in enforcing these rights as entrenched in our Constitution.
We welcome the recommendations made by the CRL Rights Commission today [Thursday] and look forward to engaging further with the Commission to consider their recommendations and incorporate them into our current initiatives, Redefine said in a statement on Thursday. ....

A Johannesburg shopping mall manager who kicked Ndebele activist Thando Mahlangu out the centre “because he was dressed inappropriately” should make a public apology in person to Mahlangu and be reinstated as per Mahlangu’s wish.
This is a recommendation made by the Commission for the Promotion and Protection of the Rights of Cultural‚ Religious and Linguistic Communities which investigated the matter.
The commission released its final recommendations on the Boulders Mall incident in Midrand involving Mahlangu and the manager of the mall, Jose Maponyane.
Maponyane caused a stir when he was recorded berating Mahlangu for wearing his traditional Ndebele attire at the centre. Mahlangu and Maponyane both appeared at the commission yesterday. This was the first time they appeared together in the same place since the incident. ....

Redefine Properties welcomes CRL Rights Commission’s cultural diversity training recommendations

Redefine Properties says it welcomes the recommendations made by the CRL Rights Commission regarding the incident involving Ndebele cultural activist Thando Mahlangu and its centre manager Jose Maponyane.
Mahlangu was thrust into the spotlight after he was instructed by Maponyane to leave the Boulders Shopping Centre because he was dressed “inappropriately”. Mahlangu was wearing his traditional Ndebele attire.
The company which owns the shopping centre said the recommendations are aligned with its intention to ensure recognition of the rights of all South Africans. ....

CRL finds Ndebele activist's right were violated, instructs Boulders mall to reinstate manager

The CRL Commission found the cultural rights of an Ndebele activist were violated by suspended Boulders Mall manager, Jose Maponyane.
Maponyane was also found to be a victim of a lost heritage, and his employer has been instructed to reinstate him.
Mahlangu accepted Maponyane s public apology following proceedings.
The Commission for the Promotion and Protection of the Rights of Cultural, Religious and Linguistic Communities (CRL Commission) has found, among other things, that the actions of Jose Maponyane against Ndebele activist Thando Mahlangu at Boulders Mall constituted a violation of Mahlangu s cultural rights.
In addition, the commission found that Maponyane acted out of a lack of knowledge of cultural diversity and that the suspended mall manager was also a victim of a lost heritage created by past inequalities. ....
