Johannesburg â The Cultural, Religious and Linguistic Rights Commission, along with Ndebele activist Thando Mahlangu, have called on Redefine Properties to reinstate suspended manager Jose Maponyane.
This comes after the CRL Commission found on Thursday that the Boulders Shopping Centre manager had violated the cultural rights of Mahlangu in an attempt to kick him out of the mall for wearing traditional garb during an incident in March, which was captured on video and went viral.
In the video, the now suspended mall manager described Mahlanguâs dress as âindecentâ and requested he leave the mall. ....

NDEBELE activist Thando Mahlangu and Boulders Shopping Centre manager Jose Maponyane have made peace.
This follows their heated moment at the mall in Midrand last month.
Speaking at the CRL Rights Commission on Thursday 29 April, Maponyane made a public apology to Mahlangu.
This was one of the recommendations made by the commission after concluding its investigations.
Maponyane said: “I want to apologise to Thando Mahlangu and Nqobile Masuku. I sincerely apologise and I will make sure the unfortunate situation doesn’t happen anywhere again within our group.” ....

The Gauteng MEC for sports, arts, culture & recreation used her Freedom Day address to call on artists to use their music to raise the consciousness of young people in society.
Speaking at the Freedom Day celebrations at Dawn Park Primary School grounds in Boksburg, Ekurhuleni, Mbali Hlophe said artists have the power to educate the youth about the socio-economic issues affecting the country.
The event, which was organised by the Gauteng provincial government and Ekurhuleni metropolitan municipality, also had the MMC for community services Nomadlozi Nkosi, Dawn Park learners, IsiNdebele traditional leaders, BrandSA and IEC members in attendance. ....
