LaTrese Saine and Tesia Thompson were each named to the 2020-21 All-Ohio Valley Conference First Team. Saine was also awarded OVC Defensive Player of the Year.
Saine is the second Redhawk in school history to earn OVC Defensive Player of the Year after Adrianna Murphy nabbed the laurel in 2017-18.
The redshirt senior from West Memphis, Arkansas, ranks second in the entire country and first in the conference with 94 total blocked shots (3.76 blocks/game) this season. Saine has also pulled down 216 total boards (8.6 rebounds/game), good for second in the league. She ranks second in the OVC with eight double-doubles, averaging 10.4 points per game.

Several Redhawk student-athletes earned recognition this week: Sophomore libero Tara Beilsmith was named the Ohio Valley Conference Volleyball Co-Defensive Player of the Week; senior guard Tesia Thompson was named the Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week; and baseball senior Tyler Wilber was ranked among the best shortstops in the nation by D1 Baseball.
Beilsmith led the Redhawks defense with 41 digs in two matches Sunday as SEMO swept Eastern Kentucky. The Weldon Spring, Missouri native, posted 16 digs in the doubleheader opener before tallying a season-best 25 in the afternoon tilt. She added eight assists and two service aces.
Thompson, paced the Redhawks women’s basketball offense this past week with 56 points (18.7ppg) as SEMO won two of its three road contests. She averaged a double-double for the week, chipping in 33 rebounds (11.0rpg).
