Approximately 30 people marched to the Cecil County Detention Center (CCDC) near Elkton Wednesday night, in support of inmates seeking improvements to their living conditions. The protest, organized by Cecil Solidarity, involved several relatives of incarcerated people who said the CCDC does not provide adequate medical care and follow proper COVID procedures. âWe are here to be a voice for the voiceless,â said Christine Givens, president of Cecil Solidarity. âIf weâre not going to do it, who else is going to do it?â The group gathered at the county road that leads to the detention center before listening to several speeches, mainly by family members or partners of inmates who addressed the conditions at the CCDC that their loved ones described to them. ....

Mayor Robert Ashby is seeking a second term in office as mayor of Perryville. His challenger is Matthew Roath. Not long after the deadline passed to enter the race in early April, Roath began campaigning against what he considered was reckless spending in town hall and disarray in town government. Using a Facebook page for his campaign Roath questioned property taxes, water and sewer rates, economic development and community services, claiming each has been adversely affected under Ashbyâs time in office. He has also questioned whether Perryville got the better end of the deal in the Great Wolf Lodge contract. ....
