PETALING JAYA: The country recorded 1,529 new Covid-19 cases yesterday, the lowest since the beginning of the year, says the Health Ministry. Its director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the total number of active cases was also below 20,000 for the first time in 2021, at 19,778 cases. Of the new cases, 1,520 were locally transmitted while nine were imported cases. Eight fatalities were recorded, bringing the death toll to 1,177 cases. Selangor continued to record the most number of cases in the country at 726, he added. “Of this total, 645 cases were from clusters and from the active Covid-19 close contact screening that is being conducted in the field. ....
