Jim Thorpe Independent Film Festival returns with 90 films in-person at Opera House April 22-25


Channeling “the rebellious spirit of the Molly Maguires,” the Jim Thorpe Independent Film Festival challenges the boldest, most defiant filmmakers to present their work, shatter convention, and incite spirited debate. The festival credo is “eyes and minds wide open,” and they mean it.
After canceling last year due to COVID-19, the JTIFF returns to the Mauch Chunk Opera House (14 W. Broadway, Jim Thorpe) for its fourth edition with live, in-person screenings on Thursday, April 22 through Sunday, April 25. That’s right – no glitchy streaming on phones, tablets, or laptops, but real movies projected on a giant screen in the dark with booming sound, the way films were meant to be experienced. ....

Television: Sheinelle Jones returns home to report for 'Today'


A familiar face will broadcast on the streets of Philadelphia this week.
Sheinelle Jones, who graduated to NBC News and her current 9-10 a.m. host stint on that network’s “Today” from Channel 29’s local “Good Day Philadelphia, will report live from her hometown and former bailiwick through Friday as part of an ongoing series, “Reopening America” which involves a skein of big-city visits to show how the 2020 COVID shutdowns have affected those metropoles economically and psychologically and how they are beginning to recover.
Because of her deep roots here – Her father, C. Darnell Jones II, is a sitting judge on Philadelphia’s Court of Common Pleas – Jones chose Philly as the first stop for her reports. ....

Philly D.A. is a groundbreaking documentary series embedded inside the long shot election and tumultuous first term of Larry Krasner, Philadelphia s unapologetic District Attorney, and his experiment to upend the criminal justice system from the inside out.
Following a sneak preview of the first episode, we’ll host a discussion with the film’s director, Ted Passon; Jessica Brown, Esq, Supervising Attorney in the Chittenden County Public Defender Office; and Skyler Nash, Public Policy and Research Analyst for the City of Burlington Racial Equity, Inclusion and Belonging Committee. Hosted by Sarah George, Chittenden County State’s Attorney. Philly D.A. will air on Vermont PBS on April 20 at 9 pm and be available to stream at vermontpbs.org. ....
