On the Town: OKC art exhibitions to capture imaginations

As you wait for the Oklahoma City Museum of Art’s upcoming major exhibit featuring “The Painters of Pompeii,” let two new exhibitions get you in the mood as they take your imagination either back in time or to the Italian countryside.
Opening at 10 a.m. Saturday, “From Heroes to Immortals: Classical Mythological Prints” and “A Room With a View: Science of the Italian Countryside” will feature works from OKCMOA’s permanent collection.
“From Heroes to Immortals” will feature 500 years of work on paper that explore people’s fascination with stories from classical mythology, said Bryn Schockmel, curator for both exhibitions, in a news release. “A Room With a View” will feature the Italian countryside’s sweeping vistas and ancient runes, especially from 19th-century American artists. ....

Cherokee Heritage Center prepares for 50th annual Trail of Tears Art Show and Sale


PARK HILL – Artwork is being accepted for the 50th annual Trail of Tears Art Show and Sale, hosted by the Cherokee Heritage Center.
The longest-running Native American art show and competition in Oklahoma will be presented July 2-31, both virtually and in person.
“The Trail of Tears Art Show and Sale has a longstanding reputation for excellence that artists, collectors and fans have come to expect throughout the years,” Callie Chunestudy, cultural tourism coordinator, said. “While CHC remains closed to the public, we’ve worked hard to expand and enhance our virtual platform from last year, and we’re excited to also safely welcome back visitors who prefer to see the art in person. With so much going on in the world, there’s certainly no lack of inspiration, and we’re looking forward to seeing what stories these artists will share with us this year.” ....
