BESSEMER CITY, NC (WBTV) - Nearly three years ago, Roger Self rammed his SUV into a Gaston County restaurant where his family was dining on a Sunday afternoon.
Self is accused of intentionally driving his car into the Surf & Turf Restaurant in Bessemer City, killing two of his family members, and injuring several others, on May 20, 2018.
Investigators said Self was having lunch with his family when he got up, went to his car and drove it into the building. His daughter Katelyn Self and his daughter-in-law died. Self was charged with two counts of second-degree murder. ....

BESSEMER CITY, NC (WBTV) - Nearly three years ago, Roger Self rammed his SUV into a Gaston County restaurant where his family was dining on a Sunday afternoon.
Self was back in court Tuesday for the first day of his sentencing hearing.
After hours of testimonies from witnesses, and even Self talking himself, the hearing will be continued until 9:30 a.m. Wednesday.
In January, Self also entered an Alford Plea, meaning he maintains his innocence but admits there may be enough evidence for a conviction. ....

Gaston man awaits fate for killing family by driving car into diner

The facts are not up for debate.
Roger Self, a prominent Gaston County businessman, used his Jeep Grand Cherokee as a weapon on May 20, 2018, and drove it into a Bessemer City restaurant where his family was seated to eat.
In the process, he killed his daughter, Gaston County Sheriff s Cpl. Katelyn Self, and his daughter-in-law Amanda Self, a CaroMont Health emergency room supervising nurse.
Several others were also injured, including his wife, Dianne, son, Josh, who was the husband of Amanda Self, and their two children, ages 12 and 8 at the time.
Self has already admitted guilt, pleading guilty Jan. 25 to two counts of second-degree murder in the deaths of his two family members. ....
