KOLKATA: A 30-year-old Ultadanga resident, who works in a local factory, is battling severe burn injuries on her head, neck and hand after an acid-filled beer bottle was hurled at her while she was returning home from work at 5.20pm on Monday evening. She was walking along Arif Road in Ultadanga.
A passer-by, who tried to help her, also received minor injuries. Locals, however, chased and managed to catch the attacker. He was arrested. The accused had poured the acid in a beer bottle and stalked the woman. Locals claimed he was not alone. That claim is being verified. The accused came from behind and threw the bottle at the victim, a investigating officer said. As the woman screamed in pain, shocked locals raised an alarm.

Sindh and Balochistan have both announced the closure of gas stations across the provinces as the Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) had stated earlier that supply would remain suspended during two days of the week Saturday and Sunday.
