KOLKATA: A 30-year-old Ultadanga resident, who works in a local factory, is battling severe burn injuries on her head, neck and hand after an acid-filled beer bottle was hurled at her while she was returning home from work at 5.20pm on Monday evening. She was walking along Arif Road in Ultadanga.
A passer-by, who tried to help her, also received minor injuries. Locals, however, chased and managed to catch the attacker. He was arrested.
"The accused had poured the acid in a beer bottle and stalked the woman. Locals claimed he was not alone. That claim is being verified. The accused came from behind and threw the bottle at the victim," a investigating officer said. As the woman screamed in pain, shocked locals raised an alarm.
