The start of a new year always ushers in a raft of newly released self-help books. Freshly made resolutions and the ‘new year, new you’ mindset drives self-help book sales in January, which is why a veritable library of new titles appear in the ‘Mind, Body, Spirit’ section of the book shop at the beginning of the year.
To the uninitiated, the self-help genre can appear samey and predictable. The books seem to proclaim the same message: ‘YOU, but better!’ The authors seem to be targeting the same audience.
Take a closer look, however, and you’ll discover a genre with a variety of segments and a new wave of books aimed squarely at the Millennial/Generation Z market.
