Boys & Girls Club celebrates Black History Month with songs, dance


The theme of a Friday night celebration was “Rise Up, Stand Up & Be Heard,” and members of the Boys & Girls Club of the Red River Valley did just that.
The program, which included singing, dancing, poetry recitations and a roundtable discussion, was put together by Boys & Girls Club staff in recognition of Black History Month and saw children of all ages come together to celebrate.
The audience and performers, packed into the gym, were brought to their feet for a rendition of the Black National Anthem before Paster Kendall McAfee-Henry Sr. delivered a rousing invocation, accompanied by his young son, Kendall Jr., on piano. ....

Pittsburgh musicians lift their voices for virtual concerts to save local stages


There will be an encore to the single released earlier this month.
Western Pennsylvania musicians recorded “SOS2020,” a song inspired by the Save Our Stages movement to help struggling music venues. It’s a mixture of rock, punk and heavy metal.
Next up on the playlist will be a concert series.
“The song is doing well, that we decided to do this concert series,” said Anthony “Rocky” Lamonde, producer and Oakland native who lives in Swissvale. “I talked with the bands who recorded the song and they were all in for this concert series.”
For four consecutive Thursdays from Jan. 28 through Feb. 18, three local bands will perform from 6 to 8 p.m. The music will be live streamed at N Stuff Music in Blawnox. There will also be video on demand content. ....

Beaver Valley-Pittsburgh bands record a song to help save area venues


Pittsburgh concert venues like the Rex Theater, Howlers and Brillobox closed last year amid the financial hardships brought on by the pandemic.
Hoping to ensure other live music sites don t go out of business, 60 local musicians rallied to record a benefit song.  
“SOS 2020,” short for Save Our Stages, comes out Friday on iTunes and major streaming platforms, and includes participation from Beaver Valley musicians like Keith Nelson, former lead guitarist from platinum-selling rockers Buckcherry; David and Hermie Granati from the nationally touring Granati Brothers; Jonathan Bagamery and Michele Dunlap from alt-rockers Murder For Girls; Jason Lizzi from The Redlines, and Chip Dominick and Maleena Dominick from Chip & The Charge Ups.   ....
