Woman shot by off-duty officer in Cove says she was going to a hospital


The woman who says she was shot by an off-duty police officer in Copperas Cove said she was attempting to get to a nearby hospital when she was shot.
Lacresha Murray, a Copperas Cove resident, told two TV outlets (KWTX and KXXV) that she was on Robertson Avenue near her home when she began to feel ill.
She made a sudden U-turn on the residential street in front of a silver truck, she told KXXV. She said she was attempting to get to AdventHealth-Central Texas in Killeen.
According to her account of the incident, Murray said the driver of the truck went around her vehicle and slowed down. She told KXXV that she went back around the truck. After that, the driver of the truck began to tailgate her. ....

KILLEEN, TX — The use of no-knock warrants has been under fire within the city of Killeen since 2019, when the execution of a no-knock warrant led to an injured officer and the death of James Scott Reed. Now, the decision whether to ban this practice is in the hands of the city council.
A no-knock warrant is exactly what it sounds like, or doesn t sound like. It’s a tactic officers use mostly in drug related cases or when law enforcement is trying to arrest a suspect who is known to be violent.
”It provides officers a little bit of the element of surprise so that they can enter without allowing someone time to perhaps get a weapon, explained Dr. Tammy Bracewell, professor of criminal justice at A&M-Central Texas. ....

Child abuse happens in every state across the country, and the trends for Texas have been steadily increasing.
In the Lone Star State, more than four children die from abuse or neglect every week and more than 184 cases of child abuse are confirmed every day.
April is recognized as National Child Abuse Awareness Month, but advocates work year-round to support victims of child abuse and put a stop to this unthinkable issue.
For over a decade, Dr. Tammy Bracewell, now a professor of criminal justice at A&M Central Texas, worked as a detective and forensic interviewer, specializing in crimes against children. She says there was never an easy day on the job. ....
