Mayoral candidates launch memoirs before campaigns

Two Taipei mayoral hopefuls yesterday each held book launches for their autobiographies.
Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Taipei mayoral candidate Chen Shih-chung (陳時中) yesterday introduced his memoir, Warm Courage: Chen Shih-chung’s Beginnings as a Doctor.
The book was not written for his election campaign, as it was slated for publication in May last year, but postponed due to a local COVID-19 outbreak, he said.
Chen, who resigned from his posts as health and welfare minister and Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) head last week, said he wanted to write the book for his children and grandchildren to understand his life, and and to help ....

Chen Shih-chung promises Double Ninth cash gifts if voted in as Taipei mayor

Democratic Progressive Party Taipei mayoral candidate Chen Shih-chung (陳時中) yesterday vowed to reintroduce Double Ninth Festival cash gifts for seniors in the capital if voted into office.
However, the payments for the festival, which is held in honor of elderly people, would depend on the city’s financial situation at the time, Chen said in a radio interview.
Asked by radio host Clara Chou (周玉蔻) if the pledge served his own interests, as he would be eligible for a cash payment, 68-year-old Chen said he would donate his gift.
