Chen chided by Taipei candidates for defending Lin

Chinese Nationalist Party (KMT) Legislator Chiang Wan-an (蔣萬安) and Taipei Deputy Mayor Vivian Huang (黃珊珊) yesterday criticized Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Taipei mayoral candidate Chen Shih-chung (陳時中) for having defended former Hsinchu mayor Lin Chih-chien (林智堅) amid allegations of academic plagiarism.
Chiang is also a candidate for Taipei mayor in November’s local elections, while Huang is expected to run as an independent, but has not formally declared her candidacy.
National Taiwan University’s (NTU) Office of Academic Affairs on Tuesday revoked Lin’s master’s degree after an NTU ethics committee said that he had plagiarized the thesis of another graduate student.

Taipei official resigns after corruption charges filed

Chen Hsin-yu (陳信瑜) on Sunday last week resigned as commissioner of the Taipei Department of Labor, two days after being charged with corruption by the Taipei District Prosecutors’ Office.
Taipei Mayor Ko Wen-je (柯文哲) has not tapped a replacement for Chen, who was investigated in connection to discrepancies in the records of an executive slush fund.
Prosecutors are seeking to charge her for allegedly contravening the Anti-Corruption Act (貪污治罪條例) and forgery laws of the Criminal Code.
Complaints were first brought against Chen by Taipei city councilors, who accused her of improperly sharing confidential information about city residents with Ko and Taipei Deputy Mayor ....

Pro-Taiwan alliance backs Chen for mayor of Taipei

An alliance of pro-Taiwan groups yesterday threw their support behind Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Taipei mayoral candidate Chen Shih-chung (陳時中), calling on voters to end what it called the “24-year-old reign by pan-blue forces” in the capital.
Addressing the crowd, Chen said he was running for mayor to make Taipei and the nation better places to live.
