TOMS RIVER - A judge has ordered a suspect be held pending trial in the attempted murder of a woman and aggravated assault during a pursuit following what authorities said was a road-rage incident in Jackson on May 8, Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer said in a prepared statement.
Michael S. Mahan, 28, of Ewing Township, is facing charges of attempted murder, two counts of aggravated assault, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, unlawful possession of a weapon, terroristic threats, and eluding, according to Billhimer.
Judge Wendel E. Daniels ordered Mahan s continued detention on Wednesday.
The incident happened at approximately 4:50 p.m., when township police were called for a report of a stabbing incident on Maria Street, police said. Upon arrival, police found a woman suffering from a large slash across her face and bleeding heavily.

JACKSON - A 28-year-old Ewing Township man has been charged with attempted murder and aggravated assault following a road-rage incident, which later led police on a chase that included two motor vehicle accidents, authorities said.
Michael S. Mahan was charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, unlawful possession of a weapon, terroristic threats, eluding, six counts of aggravated assault causing bodily injury during a pursuit, driving while intoxicated, refusal to submit a breath test and other motor vehicle offenses, according to Capt. Steven Laskiewicz.

JACKSON – The Switlik Elementary School in Jackson has earned the national Green Ribbon award from the U.S. Department of Education. The award was announced on April 22.
In a message posted on the Jackson School District website, administrators said they were “proud to share that the U.S. Department of Education announced that the Switlik Elementary School has earned the department’s Green Ribbon award for its innovative efforts to reduce environmental impacts and utility costs, improve health and wellness, and ensure effective sustainability education. The school is one of only two in New Jersey to win this award.”

WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) - Three schools in Wilmington were honored by the U.S. Department of Education on Thursday.
According to a press release, D.C. Virgo Preparatory Academy and Wrightsville Beach Elementary School were both named Green Ribbon Schools while UNC-Wilmington was recognized as a Postsecondary Sustainability Awardee.
These honors were part of the Education Departmentâs Green Ribbon Schools program, which recognizes schools, districts, and colleges/universities for âtheir innovative efforts to reduce environmental impact and utility costs, improve health and wellness, and ensure effective sustainability education.â
