From hospitality to recreation, Oregon businesses face reopening challenges

From hospitality to recreation, Oregon businesses face reopening challenges Megan Allison, KATU Staff © Provided by KATU Portland From fine dining to sandwich shops, restaurant owners in Portland say demand is at pre-pandemic levels. With high competition for hospitality workers, Chef s Table Group owner Kurt Huffman said he s struggling to meet the need. We’re doing it with just a shoestring staff, so wait times are longer, how long it takes to get the food out to you is longer. At other restaurants, we’re just not yet able to open up, like, all of our hours, Huffman said. The Oregon Restaurant and Lodging Association said owners are now getting creative, stepping into a range of roles to get the job done.

Enchanted Forest Theme Park Reopens This Saturday

KLCC s Melorie Begay reports on Enchanted Forest s June 5 return. Co-manager Susan Vaslev says this is the family’s third attempt to open, the first was stymied by an ice storm that destroyed parts of the park. And a wave of online threats about mask rules prevented the second. Vaslev says this time they couldn’t be happier with their comeback. “So many people wanted us to be here, can’t wait for us to reopen, and we can’t just thank them enough it makes all of the difference in the world, Vaslev said. The bright side to COVID is that we may not have never known those people felt as strongly as they did in support of our business.”

Enchanted Forest on track to reopen this weekend

View Comments Admission to Enchanted Forest theme park is already sold out for this weekend s planned reopening at a limited capacity. This weekend s reopening, announced by owners on Facebook, marks the park s latest attempt to resume operations following some false starts and pushback over its mask policy. Several weeks ago, the park s owners announced they d be opening following the announcement of relaxed mask and social distancing guidance in Oregon, but were met with unhappy comments, and even threats, after people learned they must wear a mask unless they provide proof of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19. To keep things simple, Susan Vaslev, a second-generation owner and operator, said the park will not be looking at vaccination cards. Instead, guests will be required to wear masks indoors, but not outdoors.
