Birmingham: Mayor Randall Woodfin was released from a hospital Wednesday after being treated for COVID-19 and planned to continue recovering from the illness and quarantining at home. Woodfin, 39, was admitted to Princeton Baptist Medical Center on Monday with pneumonia in his left lung caused by COVID-19. He said a grandmother who died of the illness caused by the new coronavirus was being laid to rest as he was being discharged. “That pains me. I can’t be there, and I miss her. COVID-19 in SC: Here's what to know Wednesday


South Carolina Chief Justice Don Beatty issued an order calling for circuit court jury trials to cease.
Beginning with this week, all circuit court hearings already scheduled will still be allowed to commence as long as they are not jury trials, according to the order. The order asks that the courts use remote communication technology if possible for such cases.
I further find that in light of the ongoing increase in COVID-19 cases throughout South Carolina, and the expectation by the medical community and experts that the number of positive cases will continue to increase in the near future, it is prudent to once again make changes to the operations of the circuit courts for the protection of those who work within the courts, as well as those who serve our state by participating in jury service, Beatty said in his order. ....
