Case numbers, Thursday updates: Here's the latest on COVID-19 in SC


The South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control announced Thursday the following coronavirus updates.
DHEC reported 1,883 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 12 new deaths Thursday. That breaks the 6 day streak of having more than 2,000 cases confirmed. The department also reported 63 new probable cases of COVID-19. 
The state cumulative total is 225,053 confirmed cases, and there have been 4,291 total confirmed deaths. Additionally, there have been 16,633 probable cases and 336 probable deaths. 
Of the 8,828 COVID-19 test results reported Thursday to DHEC, 21.3% were positive.
Greenville County, the most populated of the state s 46 counties, has led the state with the most confirmed cases every day since Nov. 6, and it had 302 new confirmed cases in DHEC s Thursday report. Greenville County, which accounts for 10.2% of the state s population according to Census Bureau estimates, accounted for 16.03% of the cases reported. ....

COVID-19 in SC: Here's what to know Wednesday


South Carolina Chief Justice Don Beatty issued an order calling for circuit court jury trials to cease.
Beginning with this week, all circuit court hearings already scheduled will still be allowed to commence as long as they are not jury trials, according to the order. The order asks that the courts use remote communication technology if possible for such cases.
I further find that in light of the ongoing increase in COVID-19 cases throughout South Carolina, and the expectation by the medical community and experts that the number of positive cases will continue to increase in the near future, it is prudent to once again make changes to the operations of the circuit courts for the protection of those who work within the courts, as well as those who serve our state by participating in jury service, Beatty said in his order. ....
